Training
Tuesday Training
Place: Arboretum Parking lot just off Prince of Wales Dr.
Time: Tuesday nights, 6:00 p.m.
Training is free for all Run Ottawa Club Members. We do interval, hill and tempo training on Tuesday nights, following a program designed by Paula Burchat. These training sessions are designed with half marathoners and marathoners in mind, and accommodate runners of varying abilities. The workouts are geared specifically to participants’ training needs and goal races. For the mostpart, everyone does the same workout, but at a speed and intensity that reflects their individual ability.
The Tuesday night sessions take place throughout the year, although the training program reflects two major cycles during the year: one starting in January, to build towards Ottawa Race Weekend (and other spring events) and one starting in July, to prepare for fall races. Feel free to join us at any time to sample these workouts or, better still, consider making a commitment to one of the training cycles if improving your race times is one of your training goals.
If you have any questions about the Run Ottawa Club training program, please contact Paula Burchat by email at paula@balanceandmotion.ca
Sunday Training
Place: Arboretum Parking lot just off Prince of Wales Dr.
Time: Sunday mornings, 8:00 a.m.
Starting Sunday, October 16, 2011 Sonja Adcock, a member of the Run Ottawa Club will be leading a Sunday group run, to start at 8:00 am and will be of varying distances. At the outset we will meet at the Arboretum Parking Lot just off Prince of Wales Drive. For those of you participating in the Tuesday Night training group, it’s the same place.
Everyone is welcome to participate regardless of running ability. Sonja’s goal is to do long runs varying from 15k up to 42.2k. However, even if the distance doesn’t quite match your training goals, you will always have the option to go shorter or farther. This is a great way to meet other fellow runners and while we won’t have specific pace groups set up, there is sure to be someone who is running at your pace.
Sonja took up running in 1994 and has since completed 30 marathons, 4 ultra marathons, 4 Ironman triathlons and participated in a number of endurance cycling events.
If you have any questions, please contact Sonja at sonad40@hotmail.com
Thursday Night Running Group
Gilles Gobeil and Maureen Mahoney will be leading the Thursday Night Running Group (TNRG). This informal running group is open to all members of the Run Ottawa Club; the weekly runs will be either causal or tempo (speed-work). If you want a more social run, or the chance to do your weekly tempo run with others – we invite you to join us!
Every Thursday we’ll meet at 6 pm at Bushtukah (203 Richmond Road- http://g.co/maps/tzcy6), inside the store, near the running shoe wall display. There’s a bathroom next to the display should you need it. Please try to find street parking and leave the Bushtukah parking lot for customers. If that’s not possible, you can park in the lot.
Below are links for a map for each route - the distances are 6/8/11 km. We won’t be running at designated speeds- the pace is whatever you like. At times the route involves Scott street, where the path is setback significantly from the roadway. Reflector vests don’t catch the light from cars, making them pretty ineffective. We recommend lights instead.

Finally, Bushtukah is very close to various cafes, restaurants, pubs, and bars, making it easy to grab a coffee or snack afterwards!
